Extract from the Bedfordshire Times and Independent 15 May 1914. A CRANFIELD TRANSFER. "The Plough" Inn, Cranfield, was transferred temporarily from William C Cooper to Henry Wilson. Mr. Tebbs applied for protection order for the incoming tenant, until June 25 and said the incoming tenant had been a farrier in the Military Mounted Police. Since leaving the Army he had lived at Cranfield. he had been married for 12 years and had a family of five children. Mr Tebbs said that if the Bench approved he also wished to make a further statement with regard to the outgoing tenant. There had been many rumours in Cranfield in connection with the recent unfortunate occurrences which had been levelled to a certain extent against the outgoing tenant and his family. He wished to say on behalf of the owners of the house that those rumours had nothing to do with the change of tenancy in the "Plough" Inn. Otherwise it might be assumed that Cooper was leaving owing to those rumours, but that was wrong. Cooper was leaving entirely for his own reasons and for reasons connedc5ted with his family. He mad that statement because he did not want any stigma to be attached to the outgoing tenant. Mr H. E. Parsons was present of behalf of the outgoing tenant.
