Extract from the Devizes and Wilts Advertiser 7 January 1909. - Unlighted Bicycle. William Flippance, baker's assistant, of Collinbourne, Kingstone, was summoned for a similar offence at Ludgershall (unlighted bicycle) at Ludgershall on December 17th - George Piggin, Lance Corporal in the Military Mounted Police, said he saw the defendant riding on an unlighted bicycle at Ludgershall at seven o'clock on the evening named. The lad rode into the hind quarters of the horse which witness was riding. It was a dark night. Defendant said he had borrowed a lamp but it went out. - Having regard to this fact, the Bench dismissed the defendant with a caution. Extract from the Dublin Daily Express 16 August 1910. RIDER THROWN AND TRAILED. From our correspondent) Newbridge, Sunday., Corporal Peggin, (Piggin), of the Mounted Military Police, met with a serious accident at the Curragh last evening and still lies in an unconscious state. it appears the injured man was on duty when his horse dashed off, throwing the rider, whose foot caught in the stirrup, when his head was dashed on the ground and trailed for some distance. The horse then struck out, catching the unfortunate man with his hoofs on the face. Corpora Peggin (Piggin) lies in a very precarious state at the Curragh Hospital and has not up to the time of writing regained consicousness.
