Notes:   Provost Officer. Royal Fusiliers attd CMP (India). 1943 OC 14 Indian Div Pro Unit. 14 Indian Div Pro Unit CMP (I). WO 172/1959, 11/143 Maungdaw. OC pro Unit (Capt G H D Williams) and batman Pte Onslow (6086483) leave to recce road Maungdaw/Indin. Part of road is along beach; whilst driving on beach the Station Wagon, in which they were, was attacked and machine gunned from the air by Jap aircraft, other vehicles not attacked at all. Three bursts were fired at the wagon, one when occupants were seeking cover. As a result of this Capt Williams was hit numerous times in the side and thigh (right) and Pte Onslow in the arm and side. Both evacuated to ADS with 47 Bde HQ's and subsequently to CCS Maungdaw. Station Wagon recovered by CSM on receiving report of incident. Formerly Metropolitan Police. His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to give orders for the publication in the Supplement of the London Gazette of 16th December, 1943 for the name of Lieutenant (temporary Captain), (now Captain) G H D Williams, Corps of Military Police, who has been mentioned in dispatches.
