Police changes affecting principal officers of Bourne sub-division were announced at the weekend. Inspector W T Robson who has been in charge at Bourne for the last four years, is moving next month to take charge of the Cleethorpes rural sub-division and Inspector Leslie Ferriby at present in charge of Cleethorpes rural sub-division will take over at Bourne. Also next month Sgt. C G O Russell is retiring from the force and taking a Ministry of Transport driving examiner's post at Peterborough. Sgt Russel joined in 1934 and was first on the beat at Spalding. He also had postings at Genery Hill and Barrowby, Grantham. On the outbreak of was he joined the Coldstream Guards and was later transferred to the Corp of Military Police. He was with the Eighth Army and took part in the battle of El Alamein. After the war he was a constable at Horncastle, Saracen's Head and then at Spalding, was promoted sergeant. After a period at Skegness he moved to Bourne in November 1955. He is the son of a former member of the Exeter City Police. Extract from the Lincolnshire Free Press 22/11/1955. Police Sgt. Coin G O Russel, aged 42 has been transferred to Bourne to replace the late Sgt. Scales and began duty at Bourne on Tuesday. Sgt Russell is a native of Exeter and joined the Lincolnshire Constabulary in 1934. he was first stationed at Spalding. From there he went to Crowland, Gedney Hill and Barrowby before joining the Army in 1939. For six hears he was in the Coldstream Guards and the Military Police being demobilised in 1945. with the rank of CSM in the Corps of Military Police having served with the Eighth Army. Then he returned to the police at Horncastle for two years, served at Holbeach Bank from 1947 to 1950 and was promoted Sgt in 1953 after having been as Spalding again for three years. From Spalding he moved to Skegness, from where he was transferred to Bourne. Whilst serving in the army he married Miss Dulcie Pell of Gedney Hill in 1940. The have two sons, William age 5 1/2 years and Robert, aged 12 weeks. They are living at 38 Mill Drove, Bourne. While in Skegness he was secretary of the Rifle Club, Bowls Club and treasurer of the sports club - three police sporting organisations. His chief hobby is philately.
