Citation:   New Year Honour. 22547564 Staff Sergeant Donald Percy Wood, RMP. 2/ic Berlin SIB Det. 20 Nov 1968 to date. Citation: S/Sgt Wood joined RMP at the age of 23 in 1955 having previously served since 1951 in RAMC and RADC in both Middle East Land Forces and East Africa. Within one year of joining RMP he was granted the rank of acting Sergeant and was posted to Cyprus returning to uk in 1959 where he served until 1962 being mad substantive Sergeant in 1960. He as then posted to BAOR until 1966, followed by rapid postings in FARELF, serving in Singapore, Borneo and Hong Kong where he was made acting Staff Sergeant. During this latter tour he received many commendations and appreciations of his investigational abilities, especially a case in 1967 when by his skill four locally enlisted personnel were convicted of murder. S/Sgt Wood took up his present post in November 1968. Having a busy role Berlin Detachment is especially important policing as it does a large service population and dependents, and, in special cases under the rights of the allied Protective Powers investigates cases involving local civilian. Most of the cases investigated by this NCO have been of a difficult and serious nature. His perseverance, strength of character and logical report writing have been much appreciated by the staff, especially in a recent case involving a vehicle belonging to a sponsored organisation travelling the Helmstedt Berlin Autobahn through East Germany. Although on call 24 hours a day his enthusiasm has never flagged and the energy he devotes to the training and welfare of his juniors is reflected in their enthusiasm and high morale. His tact and close liaison with Public Safety Branch of British Military Government, Berlin KRIPO, Customs authorities, French Gendarmerie, US Military Police and Air Force Police has greatly helped to maintain the good reputation of troops stationed in a thickly populated city. The degree of responsibility he has willingly shouldered during the absence of his OIC, especially considering the sensitive nature of West Berlin, is far beyond that normally expected of a Staff Sergeant. The effort he has put into all aspects of his work has been far beyond the call of duty. His mature sense of judgement and concern for the individual have earned him the fullest trust and respect of the Headquarters and Commanding Officers in the area his detachment serves, and have much enhanced the reputation of the Corps. Recommended by: Lt/Col, APM SIB Berlin. Brigadier Berlin, Maj/Gen Berlin, Gen. C in C BAOR.
