Corporal T A Waltier, Military Mounted Police, who was formerly a police constable at Tamworth, in a letter to Sergeant Willis, states that he has met four men from Tamworth - J. Rose, G. Radford, G. Musson and Griffiths. Corporal Waltier fives some of his experiences. one night when the was on duty just behind the trenches, a shell burst in the air over his head, forcing him to the ground. After a few seconds he recovered and was much surprised that he was not hit. The next night he was waling to the same placer and a shell came just as he was passing two ammunition teams. It fell over them, but the explosion killed nine horses and two drivers, and wounded two drivers. Fortune again smiled on him as he was not touched. In Belgium he says nearly all the people speak English, and the shops sell English goods. The gas attacks, Corporal Waltier says, are the worst thing they have to contend with.
