Citation:   RMP. Queen's Birthday Honours. Citation for MBE, Northern Ireland, 22 Feb 42 - 2 Dec 54. During the past two years in which Major MARTIN has been DAPM of this Command he has shown qualities and devotion to duty, enthusiasm and leader ship of a quite exceptional order. In the professional field he has produced a first class military police organisation of the highest standard of efficiency and smartness, and in the exceptional conditions prevailing here in Ireland, he has handles questions of liaison with the Royal Ulster Constabulary, escorts for the Governor and distinguished personages, as well as the general Provost problem with outstanding success. he has achieved this success by using his whole vitality, which is very considerable, on the job in hand. In addition, Major MARTIN because of his known ability, enthusiasm and capacity for "running a show" has been used by me for a wide variety of tasks, extending from training events for tattoos, organising military Hunter Trials, training auxiliary Ulster police, etc., etc. In each of these his infectious keenness and complete determination to make each performance the best of its kind had produced outstanding success. Although he lost an arm in the late was he has by character so mastered the disability as to excel in "show jumping" and other dangerous sports. His work and personality which are known throughout the whole of Northern Ireland have done much to enhance the prestige of the Services here. He has now just left the Command but his example remains as the standard of how things should be done.Lieut- Gen Sir J D Woodall, KBE, CB, MC. GOC Northern Ireland District.
