Citation:   Citation for Military Medal France & Flanders This NCO from the CMP was attached to the battalion by 137 Infantry Brigade. In addition to the work which he did on patrol with 2 Lieutenant Wright he carried several messages from CALONNE on 25 May 1940 through enemy positions which would have been impossible to deliver otherwise. He showed great courage and devotion to duty the whole time he was with the battalion. I understand from Capt Lofthouse APM 46 Division he also did other good work of which Captain Lofthouse is aware. Awarded the MM. Citation:   Citation to bar for MM Lower Garigliano, Italy In Italy in January 1944, this NCO with No1 Provost Section was attached to 138 Brigade at ' HARROGATE' (supply dump). He was responsible for the marking, taping and policing of the mule tracks from 'HARROGATE' to 'CHESHIRE' (supply dump). Throughout the months of January and February 1944, this NCO peformed excellent service, occasionally under shellfire, in ensuring that the supplies by mule were hastened up the mountain during the hours of darkness, which frequently necessitated him making the long and difficult journey between the two dumps two and three times a night. This NCO has always been outstanding by his leadership and courage, particulary in difficult situations or under shellfire, and his exemplary behaviour in such situations has often been the subject of admirable comments by his subordinates. Recommended by Captain T P Noon OC 46 Div Pro Coy. National Archive WO 373/9.
