Extract from the Croydon Times 19 January 1938 - AIRWAYS APPOINTMENT. Inspector A H Tassell formerly of Caterham Police Station, whose impending retirement from the Godstone Division was announced last week has received an appointment with Imperial Airways at Croydon Airport. Inspector Tassell will retire on January 15th and take up his new duties almost at once. He came to Caterham from Dorking Division in November 1932, when he was appointed inspector. Here he remained until August of last year, when, on the retirement of Inspector Brake from Divisional Headquarters at Oxted, he was transferred to his place. In all, Inspector Tassell has been over 27 years service with the force which he joined in 1910. During the War he served for nearly four years with the Military Mounted Police in France. At Caterham he was extremely popular not only with his subordinates but with everyone with whom he came in contact. There has been a surprise in the appointment of his successor at Oxted - Det Sergt. G A Turner who, a few weeks ago, became head of Oxted CID, after holding a similar position at Woking for a number of years. The new appointment of CID Sergeant at Oxted will be filled by PC Tappenden of Weybridge.
