Notes:   | MMP. From Newhaven. Awarded the Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 4/3/16. Extract from the Kent & Sussex Courier 28 May 1937. P.S. J. Stares, who has just retired after 26 years' service had been in charge of the Hartfield District of the East Grinstead Petty Sessional Division since 1928. He joined the constabulary at Lewes in 1911 after serving with the 1st Royal Dragoons. He re-enlisted in the Forces in 1915 ans served in France with the Military Mounted Police. At the end of the war he was with the 22nd New Zealanders. Mr. and Mrs. Stares are taking up residence at Tonbridge. |
