Welsh (Welch), who was at the outbreak of war a member of the Cheshire Constabulary stationed at Bramhall, had been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry. He was in the first draft of the Cheshire police which went out on active service and was in the Military Mounted Police. His home is at Le3dsham, near Chester. He joined the police for5ce in January, 1914.
