The death, which occurred at his home, Meteren, Tilford Road, Farnham, yesterday (Friday) of Supt. T J Runnegar, has caused deep regret throughout the county. Superintendent Runnegar whose age was 45, has been ill only a few days. Transferred from Farnham in February, 1934, on promotion to Superintendent, he gained rapid promotion, and only four years previously he was a constable. Before going to Farnham he was stationed tor two years at Weybridge, where he was inspector. Supt. Runnegar joined the Surrey Constabulary 24 years ago, and was stationed at Caterham until the outbreak of war. He served with the cavalry in France, was mentioned in despatches, and awarded the Military Medal. After the war he came back to the Force and was for a time stationed at Chertsey, from where he transferred to Brookwood. He was later transferred to Dorking, and went to Farnham on being made Sergeant in 1929. After two hears he was promoted to the rank of inspector and transferred to Farnham as a superintendent. His rapid promotion established a record in the Surrey constabulary for this century. The record is held by a man who joined the force i 1951 and was PC 1. In two years he was a superintendent. The funeral service will be at Farnham Church on Tuesday at 2.45.
