The Lieut-Gen commanding L of C Area, BED, 26/7/1917, Commends the particularly cool and courageous action of No. P/2226, L/Cpl A McKenzie, MFP who, on the 1st June 1917, when during a fire on board the "SS Eastgate" lying in Havre Docks, repeatedly went down into the hold of the ship and brought up cases of ammunition prior to the arrival of the Fire Brigade. L/Cpl McKenzie has been awarded the Meritorious Service medal for his Gallant conduct in this case. |
