He was called up in August 1914, and in the same year was drafted to India, where he rendered valuable service until 1919. Whilst overseas he was transferred to the Military Police. He returned to England and was demobilised in October 1919, holding he 1914-15 Star (not on medal card), and the General Service and victory Medals.
